About The Event
Celebrate Lao New Year (Pi Mai) with LaoCan and the Lao Association of Ontario!
Join us for a special cultural workshop in honour of Pi Mai, the Lao New Year. Immerse yourself in meaningful traditions, connect with others, and celebrate community together.
Activity 1: DIY Simplified Pa Kwan
Discover the art and importance of creating a Pa Kwan, a ceremonial floral and blessing arrangement used in Lao rituals. Participants will gain hands-on experience while learning about its role in fostering celebration and spirituality.
Activity 2: Somma Ceremony Preparation
Explore the Somma ceremony, a practice centered on respect, renewal, and gratitude. This beautiful tradition offers a chance to reflect, connect with elders, and strengthen community ties.
Activity 3: The Art of Khao Tom
In a special addition to our workshop, we invite you to learn or practice wrapping Khao Tom (tradtional Lao sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves). As the cooking series is currently on hold, this is a perfect opportunity to get hands-on with one of our most beloved cultural treats!
These activities provide an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Lao culture while engaging with others in a friendly and inclusive environment.
All materials, including banana leaves and rice for our Khao Tom will be provided - just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm! These workshops are a fantastic way to connect, learn and celebrate together.
