Cooking Class Overview

Class #1

Menu: Khao Poon Naam Gai (Spicy Chicken Coconut Lemongrass Noodle Soup)

Dessert: Naam Whann Roam Mied (Traditional Lao Coconut Mixed Fruit Dessert)

Discover the bold, aromatic flavours of Laos with this comforting noodle soup, layered with coconut, lemongrass, and spices. Paired with a refreshing coconut-based fruit dessert, this class introduces the balance of spice, creaminess, and sweetness that makes lao cuisine so unique.

Class #2

Menu: Nam Khao (Lao Crispy Rice Salad)

Experience the crunchy, tangy, and aromatic flavours of Nam Khao, a classic Lao salad made with crispy rice, herbs, lime and savoury proteins. In this class, you'll learn how to assemble the perfect balance of textures and flavours while exploring the cultural traditions behind this festive dish.

Class #3

Menu: Fundamentals of Making Laab & Different Variations (beef, chicken, pork, fish, vegetarian), and mastering sticky rice

Laab, often considered the national dish of Laos, is a flavourful minced meat (or vegetarian) salad with fresh herbs, lime, and toasted rice powder. In this class, you'll learn several variations of laab and gain hands-on practice in preparing sticky rice (the heart of every lao meal).

Class #4 Special Community Session

NOTICE: Our formal February cooking class is postponed until further notice. However, in prepartion for Lao New Year, we invite you to join us for a hands-on community session!

If you would like to learn or practice wrapping Khao Tom (sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves), please join us:

When: March 29 from 1:00pm-5:00pm

Where: Lao Community Centre

In addition to Khao Tom, we will be learning how to make a simplified Pa Kwan for blessings and Khun Somma for forgiveness rituals. This is a wonderful way to practice the traditions in a community setting!
